Assistant Pastor or
Director of Youth Discipleship

Full-Time Position

Position Overview

Bethany EPC is seeking a passionate, called, and theologically grounded full-time Assistant Pastor / Director of Youth Discipleship. This role exists to lead, shepherd, and disciple our children and youth (typically Kindergarten through 12th grade) so that they grow in their knowledge of, love for, and obedience to Jesus Christ. The ideal candidate will partner closely with the Senior Pastor, Session, and families to build a vibrant, intergenerational ministry that equips young people in the truth of God’s Word while fully integrating them into the life and worship of the local church.

Rooted in Scripture and aligned with the reformed theology of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (including the Westminster Standards and the EPC Essentials of Our Faith), this position emphasizes faithful biblical teaching, gospel proclamation, and the equipping of youth, parents, and volunteers. We desire a leader who models a vibrant Christian life and who is committed to seeing the next generation rooted in the gospel rather than the trends of culture.

Key Responsibilities

Discipleship

  • Oversee and support the Bethany Youth Group (grades 6-12) and Bethany Kid’s Ministry (K-5) ensuring they are gospel-centered, age-appropriate, and consistent with our Reformed convictions.
  • Provide visionary and pastoral leadership for the youth ministry, including regular large-group gatherings, small groups, retreats, and events.
  • Foster collaboration between children’s ministry and youth ministry for smooth transitions as students mature.
  • Teach and preach the whole counsel of God in youth settings with clarity, faithfulness, and relevance, modeling sound biblical exposition.
  • Build intentional, discipling relationships with students through mentoring, pastoral care, and presence at key moments in their lives.
  • Lead efforts to reach unchurched students and families with the gospel through evangelism and thoughtful outreach events.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive discipleship pathway that helps students grow in faith, character, and service to Christ and His church.

Training, Equipping, and Leadership Development

  • Recruit, train, equip, and shepherd a team of adult and student volunteers and leaders for youth and children’s ministry.
  • Partner with parents as the primary disciple-makers of their children, providing resources, training, and encouragement for family discipleship.
  • Actively work to integrate children and youth into the full life of the church, including corporate worship, fellowship, service opportunities, and relationships with adult members.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Pastor and Session to align youth and children’s ministry with the overall vision and discipleship strategy of the church.

Administration and Collaboration

  • Manage the administrative aspects of youth and children’s ministry, including budgeting, planning, communication, and compliance with child protection policies and background checks.
  • Attend regular staff and Committee meetings and work collaboratively with the entire ministry team.
  • Maintain clear and timely communication with parents, volunteers, and the congregation.

Qualifications

Required:

  • A clear and growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, demonstrated by a life of prayer, devotion to Scripture, and godly character (1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9).
  • Receive, adopt, and be bound by EPC polity and The Essentials of Our Faith, ensuring that all curricula and activities are consistent with this doctrine.
  • Undergraduate degree or relevant experience.
  • Successful completion of a background check and adherence to all child protection policies.

Preferred / Strongly Desired:

  • Ordained or ordainable as a Teaching Elder in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
  • Seminary training (M.Div. or equivalent) or significant formal theological education.
  • Previous experience in youth or family ministry (2+ years preferred).
  • Demonstrated leadership and relational skills with students, families, and volunteers.

Accountability:

  • This position reports directly to the Senior Pastor and is accountable to the Session of Bethany EPC.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary commensurate with education and experience.
  • 100% Paid health insurance.
  • Ordained pastors may designate a housing allowance and become eligible for the EPC pension plan.
  • Paid time off (PTO) after a 6-month probationary period.
